Outside of being a mom, or daughter, sister, friend, employee or employer have you ever given much thought to “who you are”?
When you get asked, “So tell me about yourself.” What do you say?
Mine sounds something like this; I was married for 10 years & divorced for 12 years & have 3 beautiful boys. Two of my three boys are in high school and one is in Uni. I work for X and I do Y to make a living. Saying all that …
Is THAT who I am?
You see, that answer describes ones relationship to your family, and where you spend most of your time to bring in income. While this does tell something about you, It does not tell very much about who YOU are!
As my children got older I started asking myself the question, “who am I”
Let’s face it, people can walk around for years lost to who they truly are. Some of us can’t even say what makes us really happy.
Discovering who you really are takes time. You have to go on a search. What you like, what you don’t. Why you believe the things you do, and if they are really YOUR thoughts, or the thoughts culture & religion has handed to you.
Discovering who you really are takes lots of really tough questions.
Questions like, “If I could do anything, & if time or money wasn’t an issue, what would I do? Or I’ve always said I was not smart enough”, where did that come from and why do I believe that?
The more questions you ask, the more you will learn about yourself. Once you come up with some questions, you need to reflect on them. In doing the digging you will discover things about who you truly are outside of all your roles & responsibilities.
Who YOU are matters!
